Lunches associated with sponsored events are also occasionally provided. REU students are to provide the rest of their own meals. There are many locations to get groceries or prepared foods within walking distance, as well as an on-campus cafeteria.

If the dorms assigned have a kitchen, participants may utilize these and utensils, pots and pans can be provided at no charge. Kitchen utensils are expected to be returned clean and in good condition.

Must I remain present for the entirety of REU program, until the last day?
We strongly encourage you to stay present for the duration of the program.  Please keep in mind that your pay/stipend is contingent on your presence. Pay will be deducted each day you miss.

For the Summer 2024, the last day of the program is Friday, August 2.

Where can I find more information about REU programs at other universities, beyond the Princeton program?
We encourage all applicants to the PMI/PCCM REU program to apply to REU programs taking place at other universities as well. The MRSEC website offers a complete listing of REU programs sponsored by the National Science Foundation. https://mrsec.org/

What about free/down time?
Nights and weekends are your free time.

NYC, Philly, and DC are only a train ride away.  Nature trails are all around us and Pennsylvania’s quaint towns are a 30 min drive and there’s also the Jersey shore! No matter how you spend your free time, we hope you have a wonderful experience, and we expect you to follow the policies that you will receive upon your arrival. Always keep in mind how your actions may reflect on the University, on PCCM/PMI, and on you. We encourage you to act in a manner that is respectful of laws, policies, and other persons.

Is there a dress code?
Generally dress is casual, however, each lab may be different, so their requirements may be too.

This is a matter to be discussed with your mentor or his/her grad students.  You will be introduced to them via email before you arrive in Princeton so that you can get familiar with each other and ask any questions.
